2oz golden syrup
2oz treacle
4oz unsalted butter
3oz dark brown sugar
6oz plain flour
1 level teaspoon bicarb of soda
1 tablespoon ginger
1 large egg beaten
1/4 pint milk

Preheat the oven to 180`c

Grease and line a loaf tin

Sift the flour and bicarb into a mixing bowl, then add the ginger

Heat the golden syrup, treacle. butter and sugar in a saucepan until the butter has melted

Pour the contents of the saucepan into the mixing bowl along with the egg and milk, mix together well then pour into the loaf tin

Bake in your preheated oven for 35-40 mins, until the top of the loaf splits along the middle and a skewer inserted into the center comes out clean
