Malt Loaf

350g self raising flour
50g caster sugar
150g currants
4 tablespoons of cocoa powder
4 tablespoons of golden syrup
1/2 pt milk

 

 

 

 

Preheat the oven to 160`c
Grease and line a 2lb loaf tin
Mix all the ingredients together to form a thick batter
Pour the mixture into the loaf tin
Bake for 1hr-1 1/4 hrs until golden brown
Turn out onto a wire cooling rack

There are many malt loaf recipes, this malt loaf is a Greek version, an inexpensive family loaf, delicious served with a little butter!
