Serves 4
450g minced lamb or beef
1 medium onion, chopped
2tbsp plain flour
300ml (1/2pt) lamb or beef stock
1 tbsp tomato puree
1/2 tsp dried mixed herbs
1 garlic clove crushed
salt and freshly ground pepper
700g potatoes, chopped
25g butter
3 tbsp fresh milk

Dry fry the mince in a non stick pan until browned.

Add the onion and cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Add the flour, stirring for 1 minute

Gradually blend in the stock. tomato puree, garlic, herbs and season to taste.

Cook, stirring until the mixture thickens and boils, then cover and simmer for 25 minutes

Pour the mixture into a 2 pint, ovenproof dish

Meanwhile, cook the potatoes in boiling water (salted if desired), for 20 minutes until tender.

Drain well, mash with the butter and milk

Cover the mince with the potato.

Bake in the oven 180'c for 25 minutes, until the potato browns.
