125g butter
125g sugar
1 tablespoon golden syrup
125g self raising flour sifted
250g rolled oats
5ml of bicarbonate of soda dissolved in 4 tablespoons of boiling water

- Preheat the oven to 180`c
- Grease and line a couple of baking trays
- Cream the butter and sugar together until fluffy
- Beat in the syrup
- Gradually add the flour, oats and soda mixture to form a stiff dough
- Roll the dough into walnut sized balls and space them well apart on the baking trays then press them down flat
- Bake for 12-15 minutes or until brown and crisp
