Nutty Brownies

Makes 12-15

140g plain flour
100g demerara sugar
140g plain chocolate
225g unsalted butter
1/2 tsp bicarbonate of soda
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp almond extract
1 egg
1 tablespoon milk
55 g mixed chopped nuts

 

 

 

 

  • Preheat the oven to 180`c
  • Grease and line a baking tray
  • Place the chocolate in a bowl placed over a saucepan of simmering water and heat until melted
  • Sift together the flour, bicarbonate of soda, and baking powder into a bowl
  • In a separate bowl cream together the butter and sugar, then add the almond extract and egg, mix well. 
  • Remove the chocolate from the heat and add to the butter mixture, and mix
  • Add the nuts, flour mixture and milk, mixing until well combined.
  • Spoon the mixture into the prepared tray, smooth over the top and place in the preheated oven for 30 minutes or until firm to touch.  The mixture will still be a little soft in the center. 
  • Remove from the oven and leave to cool completely.
  • Cut into squares and remove from the tray.
